About Word Weaver Publishing

THEN

Word Weaver Publishing is owned by Jeanne Whitehead. She launched the magazine publishing business, from her kitchen table, back in 1994. Whitehead was a single parent and it made sense to create a business that she could run from her home -- a business that her daughters, Katie and Shannon Cushing, could play an active role in.

Although Katie was just 12 and Shannon just 9 at the time, both were computer savvy and both were competent writers. Jeanne envisioned a magazine that would feature the work of young writers as well as the work of nationally published journalists.

In Atlantic Canada, at this time, magazines were few and far between.  Atlantic Insight, Atlantic Advocate, Dimensions:  all of these magazines had gone out of business.  So providing a venue for New Brunswick writers to publish their first article was also part of the vision.

Jeanne Whitehead had a background in writing and advertising. That combination of skills/experience gave her insight into the importance of producing a publication that was well-targeted.

The first issue of That Riverview Magazine ‘hit the streets’ in November ‘94. The following year, four issues were produced, and the year after that, Whitehead launched as sister publication called Come On In! This new magazine was initially distributed 5000 homes in the Greater Moncton Area.

NOW

Today, Come On In!, Greater Moncton’s Magazine is distributed to 20,000 homes and businesses in Moncton, Riverview and Dieppe. Many features that initially gained popularity in That Riverview Magazine are now part of Come On In’s regular lineup.
