Kate Merlin’s writing career began when a folk dancing course was canceled and she used the refund to attend a workshop hosted by the Periodical Writers Association of Canada (PWAC). A few months later her first article appeared in the second issue of Come On In! Magazine. She has since gone on to write for a variety of publications such as YES Mag (a science magazine for children), Small Farm Canada, Tree Service Canada, Airlines Magazine, Gulf of Maine Times, Atlantic Books Today, Atlantic Business Magazine, Saltscapes, Atlantic Co-operator, and That Riverview Magazine, while continuing to be a regular contributor to Come On In!
Kate has a BSc in Ecology and Systematics and an MSc in botany and genetics and enjoys drawing on her background in science in her writing. Her love of nature and hiking was the impetus behind her book Trails of Greater Moncton which was published by Goose Lane Editions in 2003. She’d be happy to sell you an autographed copy if you call her at 386-7439.
PWAC has now changed its name to the Professional Writers Association of Canada and Kate is currently serving as the Atlantic Regional Director. She is also the chapter president of the local chapter
